Shout

Venetian Alessandro Gottardo, known professionally as Shout, is a prominent illustrator and graphic design artist based in Milan. He is distinguished by his clean, minimalist style and conceptual approach to image making. Shout's work has featured in many international graphic design campaigns, with clients including The New Yorker, Time Magazine, New York Times, Penguin, Coca Cola and American Express. He has held solo exhibitions in L.A., London and throughout Italy, featured in publications by TASCHEN, and produced two dedicated monographs, "Mono Shout" (edited 279 Milan, 2010) and "On Shout" (edited 279 Milan, 2014). Shout's precise, balanced aesthetic has earned him many accolades throughout his career, including four Gold and three Silver medals from the Society of Illustrator New York, the Gold Medal from the Society of Publication Designer, the D&AD Graphite Pencil and Cannes Bronze Lion.
A city dweller, Shout understands the intimacy felt between an urban environment and its inhabitants. The pieces he has created for the CrossCity project are dreamlike, optimistic images, dropping one or two figures into a light filled pastel world. Bounces of light and pools of cool shadow bathe the cityscapes in a harmonious, tonal atmosphere, and in these images, New York has been experienced in the moment by this individual alone. Themes of tenderness and pleasure, leisure pursuits, and cinematic glamour are fitted onto architecture, creating a muted, soft toned playground on the tops of skyscrapers, the iconic city monuments in the background mere details in the drama experienced by its people.
